Research Interests

My interests span two distinct areas of research within environmental economics, both with profound policy implications. First, I am concerned with understanding the consequences of overlapping environmental regulations. How do municipal air quality laws interact with provincial pollution standards, and how do these in turn interact with national carbon pricing systems? Recognizing how environmental policies at the local, state, national, and supranational levels support or weaken one another is critical to designing effective regulations.

Another stream of my research centers on climate adaptation and resilience, particularly in developing countries. At the grassroots level, why and how are individuals in the places most vulnerable to climate change responding to a rapidly changing environment? By studying the determinants of investment in and success of climate adaptation measures, we can more effectively target interventions and aid.
